Bernard Vetter
El Paso, Texas
Bernard Vetter is a native El Pasoan. A graduate of Texas Western College, he has been a
professional artist since 1972. His paintings are included in a number of private
collections, including the Favell Museum in Klamath Falls, Oregon, the Pabst Collection
in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and the Miller Collection in Fort Worth, Texas. In 1994 his
work became part of the acquisition of the Huthsteiner Fine Arts Trust.
For over thirty years, Vetter has painted Southwestern and wildlife/sporting subjects,
including fly fishing and stream scenes. An accomplished watercolorist, he changed his
focus to oil painting ten years ago in the quest to explore new and challenging techniques,
and, as a result, he now paints exclusively in oils, although watercolor will always be
special to him. Over the years his style has evolved, becoming more impressionistic than
it was originally, in his effort to convey the emotional experience of a scene rather than
the exact details.
Vetter's current work focuses on
Southwest landscapes, primarily of West Texas,
southeastern Arizona, and New Mexico. His work is
included in the volume Contemporary Western Artists,
by Peggy and Harold Samuels, published by Southwest Art.
