David Schwindt
Tucson, Arizona
David Schwindt, Judge, Arts International 2011David Schwindt graduated from Fort Lewis College in 1971 with a major in art and minors in music and humanities and began painting the incredibly diverse geographical areas of the Southwest where he grew up. In 1999 David was one of 15 artists selected by The Grand Canyon Trust to raft the Colorado River and paint the Grand Canyon for ten days. Work from this trip was exhibited at the Forbes Galleries in New York and San Francisco and was the centerpiece for articles in American Artist and Art of the West magazines. His article, “The Value Solution” was published in the February 2003 issue of The Artist’s Magazine, and reprinted in the November 2010 issue as "Value Judgments." The December 2010 issue of The Artist’s Magazine features his latest article, "Less is More." He is a member of the Rocky Mountain Plein Air Painters, and in 2005 had two paintings selected for the Top 100 Arts for the Parks. He was a first place winner at the George Phippen Memorial Art Show and won first place in oils three times at the New Mexico State Fair Professional Fine Arts Exhibit.

He is a certified teacher for The School of Color, focusing on teaching color as a quality of light. He has taught at the Scottsdale Artist's School, Albuquerque Academy, and Starlight Ranch in New Mexico.

ARTS INTERNATIONAL
2011 ART JURORS

Bernard Vetter
El Paso, Texas
Bernard Vetter, Juror, Arts International 2011Bernard Vetter is a native El Pasoan. A graduate of Texas Western College, he has been a professional artist since 1972. His paintings are included in a number of private collections, including the Favell Museum in Klamath Falls, Oregon, the Pabst Collection in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and the Miller Collection in Fort Worth, Texas. In 1994 his work became part of the acquisition of the Huthsteiner Fine Arts Trust.

For over thirty years, Vetter has painted Southwestern and wildlife/sporting subjects, including fly fishing and stream scenes. An accomplished watercolorist, he changed his focus to oil painting ten years ago in the quest to explore new and challenging techniques, and, as a result, he now paints exclusively in oils, although watercolor will always be special to him. Over the years his style has evolved, becoming more impressionistic than it was originally, in his effort to convey the emotional experience of a scene rather than the exact details.

Vetter's current work focuses on Southwest landscapes, primarily of West Texas, southeastern Arizona, and New Mexico. His work is included in the volume Contemporary Western Artists, by Peggy and Harold Samuels, published by Southwest Art.

His work is in private and corporate collections in the U.S., Canada, Australia and China including the Chase Manhattan Bank, Coca-Cola, University of Kentucky, Rutgers University and Akron Art Museum.
